SUMP PUMP TUNE UP
No one wants to discover mold or flood damage in a basement or crawl space. Sump pumps can help prevent standing water from causing costly damages to your home or business. In order to keep your sump pump operating at a high level of efficiency, proper maintenance is vital. Failure to maintain and tune up your equipment can eventually cause a broken sump pump that does not operate at all.
A sump pump tune up can keep your pedestal or submersible sump pumps running smoothly. The tune up involves some basic maintenance as well as removing any standing water that may have built up. In order to prevent a leaking sump pump, seals are then checked for integrity.
Don't want for an emergency to occur and ruin your weekend. A Lees Summit plumber will be more than happy to come out and help you protect your basement or crawl space. Here are the steps they will perform when they arrive. Of course, the plumber from Lees Summit will be able to explain these steps if you have any questions.
Cleaning the Sump Pump
A dirty and grimy sump pump can wear away at the seals and cause damage. Our plumber will start by disconnecting the power to the pump before accessing it. We will thoroughly clean the base of the device and check the seals for damage. If we notice any damage, this is the best time to replace the seals to maintain the equipment's integrity. We will then use the pump's check valve to ensure that there is no excess water left standing in the tank.
Using a wrench, our plumber will remove the inlet and outlet valves. Don't be surprised if we whip out a toothbrush. This small but firm brush will be used to remove dirt, mud, or any grimy material that is in the valves. We will put the valves back on and check them for leaks. If there are leaks, this is generally not a cause for concern, as the valves can be fixed with plumber's tape or Teflon tape. This will go on the threaded ends. If the leak is too strong, we will replace the seals.
After cleaning and checking valves, we will make sure that oiled and lubricated parts remain that way. No one wants their machine to come to a grinding halt or burn out, so if they need oil or lubrication, we will take care of that. Finally, we check the electrical connections. We know they must remain intact, so we check to make sure they haven't been chewed or damaged. If they are damaged, we'll strip the wires and reconnect the wires where they need to be. We will always use shielded wire nuts.
Everyone needs to test their Lees Summit sump pump regularly. While we are tuning up the sump pump, we will test before we leave to make sure everything is running properly. We recommend that you test it on a regular basis by simply turning it on. You should see water in the sump pump start pumping.
